The kestrel ( Falco
sparverius ) also known as the sparrow hawk, is the smallest of the
falcons. It is quite
common in this area. It hunts in parks, lawns, and other open
areas.
The kestrel
prefers high, open perches from which it can
search open areas large insects and other small prey. They are
often seen
hovering, waiting for an opportunity to swoop down on the prey.
Here
the hawk is watching me because I have been slowly moving closer in
order to get a better picture.
