Red-Tailed Hawk
Buteo jamaicensis

The red-tailed hawks are often (especially during the winter) seen soaring high over my yard.  Frequently being harassed by one or more crows.  Unfortunately, open areas suitable for their hunting are rapidly disappearing.

Red-Tailed Hawk
Buteo jamaicensis This red-tailed hawk dropped in to dine one day.  He was kind enough to permit me to get good video footage.  He has selected a spotted dove (probably young) for his meal.

pictures of the kitten crouched at the bottom of the pole, staring wide eyed up at the fluffy feathers drifting down.  It appeared ready to pounce, I think the kitten's eyes were bigger than its stomach.
