The snowy egret, Egretta
thula , is seen from my yard as it flies over on its way from pond
to pond. There is often a snowy egret fishing in the duck pond at
a nearby college.
This picture was taken at
an ecological reserve wet land not too far distant from home. It is
easy to get close to them there. Notice that the snowy egret has
a black bill and yellow feet, which easily distinguish it from the
common egret.
From my yard, by the time I see an egret coming over and get the camera pointed, the egret is already almost out of range.
In
a creek, not far
from my home, this snowy egret is showing some of the plumes for which
his species was hunted to near extinction.
